First Commission

So.... the good news is that I've had my first script commissioned for publication, one that'll hopefully be published in the next issue of FutureQuake.

The artist who'll be breathing life into my script is Darren Mullen, who like me, will find this being his first published work.  A steep learning curve for us both!

Heres' an example of Darren's work:-

For my sc-fi based script, his style is perfect!

The Ending (with a twist)

So how do you go about getting a sequential comic script commissioned?
With some difficulty, a lot of patience, a bit of luck and a great deal of perseverance.

The best starting point is an anthology type comic and there's none much finer than those published by FutureQuake Press.
The FutureQuake comic itself comprises of several short, 4-6 page complete stories in a similar vein to those seen in 2000AD's Future Shocks.

Let me be honest, creating a short comic script is pretty difficult.  Creating one with a 'twist' type ending that's not obvious, not boring, not irrelevant and not been done before is very, very difficult.

Don't believe me?  Go on....try it yourself.

The Beginning

When I was eight years old, I bought my first superhero comic....
Thirty years later and I now have four and a half thousand of them.
When I was in Iraq, I started writing stories....
Several years later and I've got a lot of full notepads.

In May 2012 I attended the Bristol Comics Expo (as I do every year - ty Mrs R!)  As well as the usual geeking, chatting and queueing for art work, I sat in on two very good panels - the 2000AD panel and the Anthology panel.  Suitably inspired, I decided to combine my desire to write stories with my passion for comics....next stop a job with DC or Marvel, surely?
Submitting my first script to FutureQuake it was rejected.  Dammit.

Oh well, time to try again....

All Along The Watchtower?

'There must be some kind of way out of here' said the joker to the thief.

The first line of 'All Along The Watchtower' by Dylan/Hendrix.
Joker?  Thief?  Out of where?
Ok, so let's try the last line....

'Outside in the cold distance, a wildcat did growl.  Two riders were approaching and the wind began to howl.'

That's it.  That's how the song ends.  So what happens next?
If so, welcome to my Watchtower.
